About Us
Who We Are
Harvard Undergraduate Maternal Health Initiative is a student organization at Harvard College dedicated to improving maternal health by raising awareness on the issue and pursuing innovative solutions in response to the current lack of attention.
We know that the impact of a healthy motherhood and maternity is vast. But why is it that maternal mortality continues to be such a huge problem across the globe and that even in the U.S., as safe as our hospitals seem, we are 50th in the world for maternal mortality? The healthy well-being of mothers will carry and deliver us into a better future. That’s our belief.
And so that is how and why HUMHI was born. We can’t thank our mothers enough for everything they’ve done for us, and through this initiative, we hope to shine some light on the issue of maternal health and empower students to innovate creative solutions to engender a future where all women have the access to appropriate maternal care.
What We Do
The purpose of the Harvard Undergraduate Maternal Health Initiative (HUMHI) is to create opportunities to inform the undergraduate community about the global and domestic causes and consequences of maternal mortality, advocate for maternal health initiatives, and to begin to inspire creative solutions through research and advocacy. HUMHI members will keep the Harvard undergraduate community informed about the impact of maternal mortality on the global community and our own community in addition to raising awareness about current initiatives to increase maternal health.
